Every airline dining program has a secret menu, and it's the email preferences page. All three majors — AAdvantage Dining (American), MileagePlus Dining (United) and SkyMiles Dining (Delta) — run the same three-tier ladder, and the jump from tier one to tier two costs you exactly one checkbox.

The ladder

Tier AAdvantage MileagePlus SkyMiles How you qualify
Base 1 mile / $1 1 mile / $2 1 mile / $2 Default
Opted in 3 / $1 3 / $1 3 / $1 Opt in to program emails
VIP 5 / $1 5 / $1 5 / $1 Opt-in + 11 dines in a calendar year (from the 12th)

Note United and Delta's base rate: without the opt-in you earn half a mile per dollar. The checkbox is literally a 6x multiplier there.

VIP status, once earned, lasts the rest of that year plus the entire following year, as long as you stay opted in.

The welcome bonuses (June 2026)

New members have time-boxed bonuses worth grabbing on the way in:

  • AAdvantage Dining: 500 miles for a $25+ dine within 30 days plus a review (offer runs through January 9, 2027).
  • MileagePlus Dining: up to 3,000 miles — 1,000 for the first $25+ dine, 500 for each of the next three (through January 9, 2027).
  • SkyMiles Dining: up to 1,000–3,000 miles for $30+ dines within 30 days (confirmed through August 31, 2026), +500 for Medallion members.

The fine print

  • Tax, tip and drinks all count toward earning. Miles post in ~5 days.
  • United and Delta dining miles don't count toward elite status — but American's do: AAdvantage Dining also earns Loyalty Points, the currency AA status qualification runs on.
  • All three programs share one backend, so a card can only be enrolled in one of them at a time — the one-card rule explains the workaround (different cards per program).

Two minutes, then dinner

Pick the airline whose miles you actually redeem, join its dining program, tick the email opt-in during signup, register a card you don't have enrolled elsewhere, and book a $25 dinner this month for the bonus. That's the whole optimization.
