Upside and Seated both promise dining cashback, but they're built on different rails with different catches — and unlike most pairs in this space, they don't conflict: Upside isn't part of the Rewards Network card-link system, so a Seated-linked card can also verify Upside offers. One dinner can earn both.

Head to head

Upside Seated
Typical earn ~8% average (5–35% per offer) 5–30% of the bill
Paid as Real cash (PayPal, bank, gift cards) Gift cards only (Amazon, Uber, Starbucks…), $20 minimum
Coverage All 50 states, chains included 15 cities, mid-range-to-upscale skew
Ritual Claim before you order (4-hour window) Activate the offer, pay with the linked card
Watch out for Per-offer caps ("39% up to $10") Rewards calculated excluding tax & tip
Delivery Never qualifies Qualifies if ordered directly from the restaurant
Card-link conflicts None Rewards Network — occupies the card's one program slot

The real differences

Money vs. gift cards. Upside's payout is cash you can move to a bank account. Seated's bigger percentages arrive as gift cards — excellent if you live on Amazon and Uber anyway, a haircut if you don't.

Everywhere vs. somewhere. Upside works in every state and covers chains; Seated's footprint is 15 metros with a curated, nicer-restaurant list. Outside those cities, Seated simply isn't an option.

The failure modes differ. Upside pays nothing if you forget to claim before ordering. Seated quietly costs you a program slot: its card-link runs on Rewards Network, so the card you link to Seated can't simultaneously earn in an airline program, Marriott EAT, or Rakuten Dining (the one-card rule).

Stack them

Since they ride different rails, a properly set-up dinner in a Seated city can earn: the Seated offer (5–30% in gift cards) + the Upside claim (~8% cash) + your card's own dining rewards. That's the rare 15–35% effective return with no rule-bending — just two apps and one habit of checking both before you order.

Verdict

Upside is the default — install it regardless of where you live; it stacks with everything and pays cash. Add Seated if you're in its 15-city footprint and the gift-card catch doesn't bother you — and give it a card you haven't promised to another program.
